Flaxseed and Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed is considered one of the best sources of EFA. 100 grams flaxseed contains: flaxseed oil – 35g; alpha-linolenic acid – 20.7g; linolenic acid – 4.9g; oleic acid 6.7g; stearic acid – 1.4g; palmitoleic acid – 1.8g; proteins – 26g; cellulose-  14g; minerals – 14g; water – 9g; Significant amounts of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, chlorine, iron, zinc and oligoelements manganese, silicium, copper, fluoride, nickel, cobalt, iodine, molybdenum, chromium.

Compared to many plants, flaxseed contains a special type of cellulose, called lignin, which our body transforms into lignans. They help in building up the immune system and have anticancerogenic, antifungal and antiviral properties.

High lignan levels decrease the possibility of developing colon and breast cancer. Only 10 grams or 1-2 teaspoons flaxseed daily significantly increase lignan levels. It contains a 100 times more lignans than the next richest source. (In flaxseed oil only 2% of the flaxseed lignans remain).

Another advantage of flaxseed oil over fish oil is the fact that fish is rich in cholesterol – 100g of fish oil contain 570mg of cholesterol, equal the amount of two egg yolks. Fish is also toxic if it lives in highly polluted waters.

There is another reason why we ought to choose flaxseed oil over fish. Fish is rich in Vitamin A and D which in high doses can be toxic. Instead, in vegetable foods there is provitamin A (beta-carotene) which is not toxic at all and within the body converts into suitable for any appropriate usage Vitamin A.

Flaxseed oil is especially valuable during fatty degeneration of the liver, atherosclerosis, hypertonia (high blood pressure) and other cardio-vascular ailments, cancer, diabetes, constipation, psoriasis, asthma, allergies, etc. It containts all the antioxidants necessary for sustaining the oil in the seeds fresh: carotene, Vit. B1, B2, C, E, lecithin and phospholipids.

Flaxseed oil is assimilated without the need of water. You can mix it with other sources of EFA: 3 parts flaxseed with 3 parts sunflower seed and 1 part raw almonds is an excellent combination which provides an abundance of EFA which we so need. This combination can be mixed with salads, boiled grain foods, vegetables of fruits or even ice cream. It is important that it is consumed quickly after assimilation and have it made every time right before consumption.

Note: the AquaSource product Fatty Acid Complex not only contains flaxseed but also many other valuable ingredients which makes it even more beneficial than flaxseed. It is also incomparably easier and convenient for usage!
