Anemia is the most common blood condition, affecting millions of people around the world. Women in their childbearing years, infants, chronic patients, and the elderly are at the greatest risk for developing anemia. Conditions like hypothyroidism, kidney or liver failure also cause anemia. Aplastic anemia is a rare type of anemia that happens when your blood marrow loses its ability to produce blood cells. Furthermore, hemolytic anemia occurs when the red blood cells are destroyed so rapidly that your spinal cord cannot compensate by producing red blood cells to substitute the ones that were lost.
